What is the difference between Designated and Integrated ELD?
Designated ELD
Is a protected time during the regular school day in which teachers use the CA ELD Standards as the focal standards in ways that build into and from content instruction in order to develop critical English language skills, knowledge, and abilities needed for content learning in English.
Integrated ELD
Teachers with ELs in their classrooms use the CA ELD Standards in tandem with the focal CA CCSS for ELA/Literacy and other content standards. The EL.A/ELD framework applies the term integrated to indicate ELD throughout the day and across the disciplines to further develop the oral skills, grammatical structures and academic vocabulary to successfully engage in the academic rigor of the CCSS.
