Dual Language Program in Korean

Dual language immersion programs are designed for students to learn two languages; one language does not replace the other.

The main goal of Fairfax's Dual-Language Program is for students to achieve strong levels of academic proficiency in all subject areas, become biliterate in English and Korean, and value cultural diversity. Many programs exist at the elementary school level only because they are new, Fairfax has one of the few high programs in Los Angeles.

The students are not required to have previous instrumental experience in either Western or Korean music. The series will continue throughout the year and students who choose to continue will advance in their instruction with every semester. Percussion – students will concentrate on the instruction of the folk percussion ensemble (samulnori) instruments include Buk(barrel drum), Changgo (hourglass drum), Jing(large gong), and Kkwengguari (small gong). Dance – Gin Sangmo (long ribbon spinning hat dance) and Sangmo (short ribbon)
