Welcome Message

Our Mission at Fairfax High School is to prepare students for their unique role as responsible and engaged citizens of the world. Teachers will be creative and engaging, valuing education that encourages academics and an awareness and curiosity about an ever-changing world beyond the individual.


Vision:  Fairfax High School students will receive an academically challenging and balanced 21st-century education inspiring deep questioning and peaceful action. Fairfax High School will foster a positive school culture to support students academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and philosophically.




Welcome back, Fairfax High School Family,


I hope you were able to spend time with family and friends, relax, and recharge during your summer break.


I am excited and humbled to be the principal at Fairfax High School for the 2024-2025 school year.  I hope you were able to spend time with family and friends, relax, and recharge during your summer break.  I cannot wait to see you and your remarkable experiences, whether it was working summer sessions, traveling, or staycation.


I look forward to an exciting and rigorous year as we pursue our collective goal of preparing our students and staff to “Unleash the Greatness” – to succeed in high school so they will be “College Prepared and Career Ready!”  I am privileged to work with our brilliant and highly experienced staff, enthusiastic and supportive parents and extraordinary students.  Fairfax High School will celebrate our centennial year and celebrates our centennial year with its rich diversity of ethnicities, languages spoken, cultural backgrounds, and academic excellence.


This year’s theme is “Unleash the Greatness!”  It encompasses three priorities that will guide our decisions and choices.

  • Foster Academic Excellence
    • High academic standards, innovative teaching, and a rigorous curriculum to help students reach their full potential and prepare for future success
  • Embrace Challenges & Growth
  • See challenges as growth opportunities, helping them build resilience and a growth mindset for achieving greatness.
  • Build a Supportive Community
    • Positively impact their school and community through service, leadership, and collaboration.

 

We will also continue with the District and Fairfax High School’s priorities:

  • Equitable Grading and Instruction (EGI)
  • Writing Across the Curriculum & Increasing Student Access to Practicing Authentic Writing Skills (PAWS) Center
  • Increase the use of Instructional Technology (Tools)
  • Small Group Instruction using i-Ready Data
  • Implementation of Personalized Instruction in i-Ready/I/XL Platforms using i-Ready Data
  • Using Data to Drive Instruction
  • Provide quality first instruction and implement Culturally Responsive, Relevant, and Linguistically Responsive Pedagogy.
  • Focus on our critical learners:  Special Education, English Learners, and African-American/Black students
  • Provide enrichment and acceleration courses
  • Continue Dual Enrollment/Concurrent Enrollment Opportunities
  • Parent Workshops from Fairfax High School and LAUSD

 

These are very ambitious goals, but if you look closely at what's happening in our school, you'll see it occurring on multiple levels. We just want to make a focused shift.  We can do this!


I am thrilled to introduce our new faculty members to our school, as they will be an exceptional addition to our already talented team:

Finally, Gholdy Muhammad, author of Unearthing Joy and Cultivating Genius, says it best: “Like flowers, children are destined for beauty and growth. They are flowers. When a flower does not grow, we don't uproot it. Instead, we change the amount of sunlight and water, we change the type of soil, and we nourish it. We look for solutions that will facilitate growth.”


We are a school on the move, and as you prepare to welcome our students and their parents, remember that we are partners. Let's be the soil that nourishes and helps our students to thrive at Fairfax High School.
