Greetings GATE/SAS Coordinators and Administrators,

Gifted/Talented Programs, Advanced Learning Options, and the Division of Human Resources, proudly present the 17th Annual Districtwide Symposium on Gifted and Talented Education (GATE). This inspirational and informative professional learning event will be held in-person on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Miguel Contreras Learning Complex.

The Symposium will highlight the effective practices of K-12 LAUSD educators in understanding and addressing the unique needs of gifted, talented, and advanced learners from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups. The Symposium will feature a keynote speaker and differentiated breakout sessions facilitated by GATE experts, including LAUSD educators. Sessions and materials will be aligned to research-based GATE practices, LAUSD Instructional Priorities, and the Teaching and Learning Framework.

Symposium sessions will address the question, “How do we create classroom conditions where gifted and advanced learners are consistently challenged to think deeply, engage in meaningful academic discourse, and develop their full potential?” Sessions will highlight practical approaches to differentiation that support the unique academic and social-emotional needs of gifted and advanced learners from diverse backgrounds while cultivating rigorous, student-centered learning environments. Participants will explore effective, research-based instructional strategies that promote depth, complexity, novelty, and acceleration, with an emphasis on designing cognitively demanding learning experiences that nurture curiosity, intellectual risk-taking, and student agency.

Registration is available in MyPLN (search 17th Annual Symposium on Gifted and Talented Education). Space is limited, and participation is optional. (Please only register if you are able to commit to attending the full in-person event.) Compensation is not available; educators may log five hours of GATE professional development for full attendance. Registered participants will receive detailed information via email prior to the event.

Thank you for your dedication to meeting the needs of gifted and advanced students. If you have questions about the Symposium, please contact Rasienna Forss, District Specialist, Gifted/Talented Programs, at [email protected].

Best regards,
