Understanding The Impact Of Test Scores ACT/SAT ON College Admission 2020 - 2021 - Please Read To The End

Does UC or CSU require test scores for Fall 2021 (class of 2021) applicants?

The University of California "UC" and California State University "CSU" understand the challenges students face due to COVID-19. In response, there is a temporary suspension of the SAT or ACT test requirement for Fall 2021 applicants (class of 2021). This means SAT and ACT scores will not be considered to determine admission decisions.

Should I report my SAT or ACT test scores?

If you submit your ACT or SAT scores they will be used as a measure to determine your freshmen Mathematics and English courses. Please remember the university strongly considers students who demonstrate they are college-ready through a variety of means such as:

MATH COLLEGE READINESS:

  • A score of 550 or above on the mathematics section of the College Board SAT Reasoning.
  •  A score of 550 or above on a College Board SAT Subject Test in Mathematics (level 1 or level 2).
  •  A score of 23 or above on the American College Testing (ACT) Mathematics Test.
  •  A score of 3 or above on the College Board Advanced Placement Calculus AB or Calculus BC exam.
  •  A score of 3 or above on the College Board Advanced Placement Statistics examination.
  • Completion of a transferrable community college course which satisfies the Mathematics General Education requirement in Mathematics

ENGLISH COLLEGE READINESS:

  • A score of 500 or above on the critical reading section of the College Board SAT Reasoning.
  • A score of 22 or above on the American College Testing (ACT) English Test.
  • A score of 3 or above on either the Language and Composition or Composition and Literature examination of the College Board Advanced Placement Program.
  • Completion of a transferrable community college course which satisfies the English General Education requirement in English

Will the lack of test scores impact my admission?

Campuses will use your “a-g” GPA, quality of coursework completed (Honors, AP and/or Community college), and supplemental factors (such as college-readiness in Math, English or both) to determine informed campus admission decisions. Supplemental factors may also include the number of courses exceeding minimum “a-g” requirements, your household income, extracurricular involvement, and other available information.

Admission factors:

Do the admission changes indicate it will be easier to get in?

Temporary changes to admission do not lower the preparation needed to be accepted. All students grades 9th - 12th should enroll in challenging courses in order to prepare themselves for college and become college-ready. Please keep in mind activities and awards may also impact admission decisions.
